How Do I Cope?

Two Month Personal Support Programme - £247/month

"We are living separate lives and are getting divorced but I’m being told by friends/my lawyer that I’m not coping well."

A typical client on this two month tele-support How Do I Cope? programme may have separated and be living separate lives but they know - and their friends and family are probably telling them - they are not coping well. Their partner may already have left them and they may be worried about their children, the finances and much more.

This personal support programme is designed to keep them focused and give them the confidence to progress.

Divorce itself is hard enough and the presenting issues of long-term relationship breakdown are very similar, if not more complicated on the legal front, especially if property and children are involved. There are so many areas that need to be addressed: the 'emotional divorce', 'the 'financial divorce' and the 'legal divorce'. Add in the 'children divorce' if a couple can't agree over the children, throw in mind-numbing practicalities and confusions and it's no wonder the word 'divorce' evokes so much pain.

But for all your friends and family who are going through the pain of breakup or divorce, or who are miserable in an unhappy marriage because they can't see a way out, how many friends do you know who have got through and who are positively thriving in a way they may have failed to do before separating?

What proportion of your separated and divorced friends are stuck in a 'poor me' place blaming their inability to move forwards on their ex-partner (and possibly the rest of the world too!)? And how many have grown through the experience? Who will come through marital breakdown and thrive and who will allow it to adversely affect the rest of lives?

If you are in this position, what will happen if you don’t have help? Your solicitor might be sympathetic but for how long can you afford to pay them in excess of £200 an hour (if you’re lucky, many people pay much more and that's before the VAT) to pour your heart out? By all means, use them for legal advice, especially to know what the law will award you, or to negotiate for you or present your case in court, but do you really want to pay them - can you really afford to pay them - for the non-legal help? And are they really the best people to offer this?

We can help you to get on with life, and find the resources - both external and within yourself - to find the path through with our How do I cope? two month programme. Get help to recognise that although things will be different, they won't necessarily be any worse. We can help you to learn to drop what you don't need and find the confidence to get through the breakup or divorce process and move on afterwards.
